Addis Ababa, 28 July 2009

The African Human Security Initiative Secretariat at the Institute for Security Studies, cordially invite you to a launch of monographs on country reviews of the status of Crime and Criminal Justice Systems in selected APRM member countries to be held on the 28th of July, 2009 at the Hilton Hotel, Addis Ababa from 16:00-18:00 hrs.

The African Human Security Initiative (AHSI), a network and partnership of several African organisations working on peace and conflict, has been using the opportunity created by the peer review concept to complement the formal NEPAD – Africa Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) process. This was done through reviewing the criminal justice system in five countries identified for peer reviews [Zambia, Tanzania, Benin, Mali and Sierra Leone]. The reviews were done through local country partners in the selected countries and they mimicked the APRM methodological approach.

The AHSI network is composed of the following organisations: Africa Peace Forum (APFO); WANEP (West Africa Network for Peace); African Security Dialogue and Research (ASDR); SAIIA (South Africa Institute for International Affairs); Institute for Human Rights in Africa (IHRDA); Institute for Security Studies (ISS) and the Southern African Human Rights Institute (SAHRIT). The AHSI Secretariat is hosted by the ISS in the Addis Ababa Office.

RSVP: Alice shaile@issafrica.org or Dr. Annie Chikwanha achikwanha@issafrica.org
